About Chuck
Born in Brooklyn in 1981 and raised in Miami, Charles Furment—also known throughout the music scene as Chuck Livid—has been capturing culture through a lens since he first picked up a Canon FT1 at age 15. A lifelong lover of punk and noise, his early influences—Sonic Youth, Ramones, and Nirvana—shaped both his creative vision and DIY ethos.
In the late ’90s, Charles created Muddy Chaos, a gritty, unapologetic zine released under the name Karl Mudd. From 1997 to 2000, it covered the South Florida underground and international punk scenes, earning him recognition as a sharp-eyed writer, editor, and documentarian of the culture. That momentum continued with the launch of Livid Records (2006–2011) and the alt-pop culture site TuffGnarl.com (2012–2017), which peaked at 105,000 daily readers.
Over the years, Charles has photographed and worked with some of the most iconic and legendary names in music, including:
Guitar Wolf, The Queers, The Misfits, Richie Ramone, Y.K. Hamilton, CJ Ramone, Cheetah Chrome (Dead Boys), Rickolus, Devon Ross, The Dwarves, IRA, Against All Authority, JER, U.S. Bombs, Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Sloppy Seconds, The Crumbs, and Screeching Weasel.
While his roots are in the punk and DIY world, Charles also forged a successful parallel path in IT. He’s worked in the industry since the late ’90s and now leads Mergers & Acquisitions projects for a Fortune 50 healthcare company.
In 2023, a chance meeting with filmmaker Sam Raimi reignited a dream: filmmaking. That moment lit the fuse for his debut short film, Emincer—a black-and-white horror film shot on real celluloid, set for release in late 2026. Drawing on both his photography chops and corporate leadership experience, Charles has transitioned fully into visual storytelling, primarily using the Nikon Z8, Nikon F5, and a collection of Soviet film cameras.
He splits his time between Boca Raton, Florida and Medellín, Colombia, where he lives with his wife Helena and their son Nico.
